| What is SpinoFLEX? |
The SpinoFLEX is an adaptable body-weight support system used for rehabilitation, fitness and mobility. It allows the user to support themselves comfortably with numerous attachments and can support them actively with our harness system to maximize safety. |
| Where can the SpinoFLEX be used? |
The SpinoFLEX can be used at physical therapy centers, hospitals, office complexes, elderly care facilities, retirement communities, homes and other places where physical exercise is needed.
Clinical: The SpinoFLEX is a cornerstone in the clinical environment. Therapists can concentrate on the therapy at hand while knowing that the patient is safe and comfortable.
Home: We offer SpinoFLEX models which are affordable enough to be used in homes so that users can continue their physical therapy exercises at home.
Corporate: With back pain being the most work limiting condition, the SpinoFLEX can be used in corporate settings where employees need to exercise and decompress the lumbar spine and improve disc health. Desk related jobs can also be performed with the use of the Platform attachment. This allows the user to place a laptop/book at a comfortable level and work while walking, improving employee health while increasing productivity. |
| How can the SpinoFLEX be used as a patient lift or stander? |
The SpinoFLEX is designed to fit around most wheelchairs so that you can lift a patient out of a wheelchair using our harness system. If the patient has enough upper body strength, they can also use our various attachments for support as the SpinoFLEX lifts them up. The Theracentric upgrade can also be used for wheelchair sit-to-stand, but is also made to roll under beds so patients can be lifted from their bed to a standing position. |
| How is the treatment on SpinoFLEX different from aquatic/pool therapy? |
Aquatic therapy reduces the pressure on the spine and joints due to buoyancy. At best, pressure can be reduced to zero; but this does not produce negative pressure or traction/decompression of the spine.
The SpinoFLEX allows adjustable degrees of weight bearing and traction by reducing gravitational forces on the spine and lower extremities while adding disc decompression. During treatment, the patient can be sitting, walking or running on a treadmill, or performing any number of low-impact normal day-to-day balance or kinetic activities. Furthermore, with the SpinoFLEX there is no need to waterproof wounds or provide special aquatic clothing; so patient preparation time is minimal.
|
Why do people feel immediate back pain relief using the SpinoFLEX? |
The SpinoFLEX facilitates unique supported conditions which maximize static spinal decompression by redistributing weight bearing stress from the spine and lower extremities. The unique support mechanisms of the SpinoFLEX anchor the upper body; and each step creates a downward pull on the body for cyclic disc decompression, as well.
Together, static and cyclic decompression reduces pressure inside bulging or herniated discs quickly and allow them to retract. This relieves pressure on the nerve root for instant pain relief. The decompressed discs then permit increased circulation of fluids, nutrients and oxygen to flow into the discs which let them heal properly. |
| How do back pain sufferers benefit from SpinoFLEX |
SpinoFLEX helps users control their own weight distribution to foster pain relief. They can take almost all of their body weight off the lower extremities and the lumbar spine area to reduce or eliminate stress in those areas. They can exercise longer with more stability and comfort, and with higher intensity while minimizing back pain. SpinoFLEX encourages natural walking movements in a number of supported conditions that help relieve nerve pressure, strengthen and stabilize the vertebral support structures, increase circulation, improve posture, and protect the bones, joints, and soft tissue from the effects of repetitive weight bearing impact shock. SpinoFLEX adds a variety of increased range-of-motion exercise equipment without increasing pressure on the spine and lower extremities. Unweighting capabilities greatly reduce stress on the back and lower extremities to help treat patients with chronic and acute back pain and gait, balance and coordination disorders. |
| For which back conditions can SpinoFLEX effectively be used? |
Arthritis, bulging/herniated disks, nerve root damage, degenerative disc disease, posterior facet syndrome, sciatica, spinal stenosis, spondylolythesis, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, post trauma and post surgical, to name a few. |
| How can the SpinoFLEX be used by both children and adults? |

| How is SpinoFLEX beneficial to healthcare professionals and clinical practices? |
Power-driven adjustment controls modify the SpinoFLEX quickly and easily for individualized rehab programs according to age, height, weight and physical condition. In many cases, the healthcare professional can be working with other patients while one is on the SpinoFLEX, thus increasing the number of patients that can be treated and reducing costs without compromising patient safety or comfort. Because SpinoFLEX adapts easily to help a number of healthcare situations, it precludes the need for redundant equipment, saves space, and streamlines operations. SpinoFLEX lift and support mechanisms can take the patient directly from the wheelchair to the exercise platform, thus decreasing the risk of injury to the healthcare provider while providing greater patient safety, making the SpinoFLEX perfect for "no-lift" facilities. SpinoFLEX enables earlier post-surgical or post-trauma ambulatory conditioning. By providing patients with comfortable, non-traumatic walking and running exercise in a pain-free environment, SpinoFLEX keeps them from quitting too soon and increases success rates |
| How can SpinoFLEX be used for cardio rehab? |
Many disabled or elderly patients cannot exercise for long periods of time. The SpinoFLEX provides the needed support for these patients so they can exercise without pain and fatigue to improve their cardiovascular health. |
| What needs do exercise therapies fill for stroke rehab patients? |
Stroke patients exhibit biomechanical impairments associated with hemiparetic gait, which limits mobility and increases the risk of falls. Disability through physical deconditioning and "learned non-use" result from the limited mobility. As a consequence, most stroke patients become physically inactive and exhibit chronic deficits in gait and balance that are compounded by the declines in fitness and strength that accompany advancing age. Repetitive task-oriented training, such as treadmill exercise and forced-use training, offer the potential to improve motor function and further improve muscular and cardiovascular function. |
| How can SpinoFLEX fill the needs for stroke rehab patients? |
The harness attachment is used to initiate gait training and prevent falls. Without the need for additional gait-training specific equipment, the patient may, as conditioning, balance, and confidence improve, "graduate" to leaning over the platform or to using the crossbar or handgrips alone as support devices for gait, strength and cardiovascular training. The SpinoFLEX allows the patient to progress comfortably to more normal levels of day to day activities in safety while playing an active role in their own rehabilitation.. SpinoFLEX users control their own weight distribution to foster pain relief. They can take almost all of their body weight off the lower extremities and the lumbar spine area to reduce or eliminate stress in those areas. They can exercise longer with more stability and comfort, and with higher intensity while minimizing pain. |
| Why is the SpinoFLEX suitable for senior day-to-day exercise regimes? |
As osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, and other age-related disabilities progress, the elderly often experience decreased mobility through physical deconditioning and non-use. There are noted declines in fitness and strength and a worsening of cardiovascular and metabolic disease risk factors. New strategies stress non-sedentary lifestyles and aerobic exercise to optimize neuromuscular functioning and cardiovascular conditioning and to enhance general feelings of well-being. The SpinoFLEX attachments, the crossbar, armrest platform and handgrips, helps those with instability and balance problems by providing comfortable support and safety and to relieve fear of falling. Seniors can walk or run naturally while choosing the support device that provides the most comfort and relief from nerve pressure damage, an unsupported vertebral column, poor posture and unprotected bones, joints and soft tissue structures. The SpinoFLEX provides support for seniors in a way that is easy to use while they exercise. This translates to an increase in motivation to continue regular exercise and thus improved quality of life |
| Can the SpinoFLEX be used for healthy people for stretching and strengthening? How? |
Absolutely! Automated adjustment controls modify the SpinoFLEX quickly and easily for individualized exercise programs according to age, height, weight and physical condition. The SpinoFLEX is also used for sports enhancement programs, which gives athletes the performance edge they are seeking. Many experts believe that cross-training is very important to overall athletic conditioning. The SpinoFLEX enables cross-training by allowing for cardiovascular, body-weight, and stretching exercise all in the same equipment. The crossbar, platform and, handgrips are perfect features that can be adjusted to anyone's height or stride on the treadmill to conduct a number of stretching and strengthening exercises. | What are the advantages of having different attachments? |
Because there are a number of SpinoFLEX attachments designed both for a variety of healthcare situations and for flexibility, they preclude the need for redundant equipment, save space, and streamline workout sessions. In clinical settings it reduces the need to transfer patients from equipment to equipment, saving time and ensuring patients' and clinicians' safety. The different attachments also enables the user to find the best support mechanism for the condition being treated. Numerous body-weight exercises can also be performed including push-ups, pull-ups, chin-ups, dips, and tricep pushdowns. |
| How can the SpinoFLEX help people who suffer from obesity? |
Obesity contributes to all kinds of health problems, such as: high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, depression and death. On top of that overweight people can experience uncomfortable joint pain caused by carrying excessive body weight. The good news is that exercising on a SpinoFLEX helps by reducing the amount of weight on the lower extremities, allowing for prolonged exercise. The best way to lose weight is to increase the time spent exercising and increasing the intensity. Both of these objective are reached with the SpinoFLEX because the SpinoFLEX takes the weight off of the lower body so that the user gets less fatigued and the intensity can be increased by placing less weight on the SpinoFLEX and allowing the user to carry more weight. Supine exercises can cause difficulty with breathing; extra weight around the abdomen can make some exercises impossible; and those with knee problems and balance issues cannot perform squats or lunges. Walking, however, is a simple exercise; and when you combine that with SpinoFLEX supported conditions that offer upper body strengthening as well, pain-free, aerobic weight-loss conditioning can begin. |
| What are the advantages of the Harness? |
The harness attachment serves a number or purposes. It is designed to provide maximal support and safety. The harness allows for wheelchair sit-to-stand maneuvers so that the healthcare provider no longer needs to lift the patient, saving them from injury and cutting insurance costs. The harness also allows for complete control of the amount of weight bearing the user places on their lower extremities. The harness attachment is can be used for balance and gait training, and low impact exercises while eliminating patient fall injuries. |
| What are the advantages of the Handgrips? |
The Handgrips are very useful for both the therapist and user. Since the Handgrips are manually adjustable along the entire vertical frame, they allow any size patient to perform a number of exercises. At standard waist height can be used to support the upper body while keeping the users weight centered and since they are easily adjustable, the Handgrips on the SpinoFLEX allow for more flexibility than parallel bars. For someone looking for strength training and stretching exercises, the Handgrips can be used for pull ups, push ups and dips. All three of these exercises help condition some of the largest muscles in the upper body. For people just getting into strength training, the hybrid functionality of the SpinoFLEX allows for "halfway" pushups, where the handgrips are adjusted to mid height so that less body weight is used for the exercise. The Handgrips can also be used to suspend the entire body for stretching and full body traction. |
| What are the advantages of the Crossbar? |
The Crossbar is power-driven so it is easily adjustable, can be set to any height needed, and is used for a number of different exercises. It allows for situations where the hands need to be close together and it's large diameter makes it easier to grip for arthritic hands. The Crossbar is also perfect for various stretching exercises such as hamstring stretching. Full body traction can be performed as well |
| What are the advantages of the Platform? |
The Platform attachment is power-driven for easy adjustments. The user comfortably leans forward on the platform and adjusts the height for maximum comfort, and decides exactly how much upper body weight to transfer to the SpinoFLEX for a pain free workout. The most popular attachment, the ergonomically designed arm support/work platform takes pressure off the spine and lower extremities for pain-free body conditioning. It's uses include above waist to shoulder level positions to offload upper body weight onto the SpinoFLEX, thus taking pressure off the injured area of the spine and decompressing discs for immediate pain relief. The Platform supports a laptop, small TV/DVD, stereo, or books and magazines to make workout time more productive. |
